Use earning rules to reward customer actions such as purchases, referrals, product reviews, social actions, and birthdays.
Common earning rules #
PrizeSuite may support earning rules such as:
- Purchase points
- Referral points
- Birthday points
- Product review points
- Social action points
- Manual points adjustments
The exact available rules depend on your app version, plan, and enabled modules.
Purchase points #
Purchase points reward customers for eligible purchases.
Use this rule when you want customers to earn points based on shopping activity.
Before enabling purchase points, confirm:
- The Points Engine is enabled
- Purchase points are enabled
- The earning amount or rule is correct
- The customer flow has been tested with a valid order
Referral points #
Referral points reward customers for referral activity.
Use this rule when you want customers to invite friends and earn points when the referral conditions are met.
PrizeSuite referral rewards should be configured carefully to avoid abuse.
Birthday points #
Birthday points reward customers around their birthday when enabled.
Use this feature to encourage customers to return to your store and engage with their rewards.
Product review points #
Product review points reward customers for approved product review submissions.
Product review rewards may require merchant review before points are awarded.
Use manual review when you want to confirm the customer submitted valid review proof before approving the reward.
Social action points #
Social action points reward customers for actions such as following, sharing, or submitting proof for social activities.
Some social actions may require manual review because external social activity can be difficult to verify automatically.
Pending review vs instant points #
Some points can be awarded instantly, while others should stay pending until reviewed.
Recommended approach:
- Purchase points: usually automatic after eligible order activity
- Referral points: automatic or rule-based after referral conditions are met
- Product reviews: manual approval recommended
- Social actions: manual approval recommended
- Manual adjustments: merchant-controlled
Best practices #
For a safer points program:
- Start with a few simple earning rules.
- Keep reward amounts reasonable.
- Use manual review for actions that are hard to verify.
- Test every rule before promoting it.
- Explain earning rules clearly to customers.
- Review pending items regularly.
Customer-facing display #
Customers can view available earning options and activity from the My Rewards page when Points is enabled.
Depending on your setup, customers may see:
- Available points
- Pending points
- Completed earning actions
- Rejected actions
- Points activity history
- Ways to earn more points
Troubleshooting #
If a customer does not receive points:
- Confirm the earning rule is enabled.
- Confirm the customer completed the required action.
- Check if the reward is pending review.
- Check the customer’s points activity.
- Confirm the customer used the same Shopify account.
- Review the related order, referral, review, or social action.
