After enabling the Product Guard app embed, test it on your storefront to confirm standalone giveaway checkout products are protected.
Before testing #
Make sure:
- Product Guard is enabled in Shopify Theme Editor
- The theme was saved
- You have a standalone giveaway campaign
- The giveaway checkout product exists
- The giveaway page loads correctly
Step 1: Open the giveaway page #
Open the customer-facing giveaway page on your storefront.
Confirm that the normal giveaway page works and customers can follow the intended entry or checkout flow.
Step 2: Open the standalone checkout product page #
Open the Shopify product page connected to the standalone giveaway checkout product.
This is the page Product Guard is designed to protect.
Step 3: Confirm the purchase controls are guarded #
When Product Guard detects a standalone giveaway checkout product, the normal direct purchase controls should be replaced or reduced with customer guidance.
Customers should be guided back to the giveaway page instead of buying the checkout product directly.
Step 4: Test the giveaway checkout flow #
Return to the official giveaway page and test the intended customer flow.
Confirm:
- The giveaway page loads correctly
- The customer can enter through the intended flow
- Checkout opens correctly
- Tickets or entries are assigned after a valid paid order
- My Rewards shows the customer activity
- Participants shows the entry in admin
Step 5: Test after changes #
Retest Product Guard after major changes, such as:
- Changing themes
- Publishing a new theme
- Creating a new standalone giveaway
- Editing giveaway checkout products
- Updating page templates
- Changing storefront product settings
Troubleshooting #
If customers can still buy the standalone checkout product directly:
- Confirm Product Guard is enabled in App embeds.
- Save the Shopify Theme Editor again.
- Confirm the product is connected to a standalone PrizeSuite giveaway.
- Confirm the product has the expected PrizeSuite giveaway metadata.
- Confirm you are testing the correct storefront theme.
- Clear cache or test in a private browser window.
Best practices #
For safer standalone giveaway campaigns:
- Enable Product Guard before launch.
- Test the product page and giveaway page.
- Share the official giveaway page with customers.
- Avoid promoting the standalone checkout product URL.
- Review Participants after test purchases.
