The Product Guard app embed helps protect standalone giveaway checkout products.
When enabled, it can guide customers back to the giveaway page if they open a standalone giveaway checkout product directly from the storefront product page.
Why Product Guard is useful #
Some giveaway campaigns may use a standalone Shopify product for checkout.
That product is used by PrizeSuite to support the giveaway purchase flow. Customers should normally enter through the giveaway page, not by buying the standalone checkout product directly from the normal Shopify product page.
Product Guard helps reduce confusion by replacing normal product purchase controls with giveaway guidance when a standalone giveaway checkout product is detected.
Step 1: Open Shopify Theme Editor #
From Shopify admin, go to:
Online Store → Edit theme
Step 2: Open App embeds #
Inside the Shopify Theme Editor, open:
App embeds
Step 3: Enable Giveaway product guard #
Find the app embed named:
Giveaway product guard
Turn it on.
Step 4: Save the theme #
Click Save in the Shopify Theme Editor.
The Product Guard app embed is now enabled for your active theme.
What customers may see #
When a customer opens a protected standalone giveaway checkout product directly, they may see guidance that sends them back to the giveaway page instead of using the normal Add to cart or Buy it now buttons.
This helps customers enter through the intended giveaway flow.
When to use Product Guard #
Use Product Guard if your store uses standalone giveaway checkout products.
It is especially useful when:
- You create standalone giveaways
- Customers may find checkout products through search or product links
- You want customers to enter from the official giveaway page
- You want to reduce accidental direct product purchases
Important notes #
Product Guard does not replace proper giveaway setup.
You should still test:
- The giveaway page
- The intended checkout flow
- Ticket or entry assignment
- My Rewards customer activity
- Participants admin records
Troubleshooting #
If Product Guard does not appear to work:
- Confirm the app embed is enabled.
- Confirm the Shopify Theme Editor was saved.
- Confirm the product is a PrizeSuite standalone giveaway checkout product.
- Confirm the giveaway is still active.
- Refresh the storefront product page.
- Test in a private browser window if cache may be affecting the page.
